Us-human beings must stick to certain norms which have been set at default by society at large, and accepted as standards. One such prerequisite is that modern humans should never take a shower or bath is public view. In fact, if you do, you risk being caught up with the law enforcement officers who will accuse you for indecent behavior- or worse still, behaving in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.
Even if your shower is within your self contained bungalow, or a "self contained" single room, you must have an eye barrier between you and the rest of the house, yes- the shower curtains. It is obvious that when one enters the bath or shower room, the only intention could only be to wash out cumulative dirt from your body. It is thus sacred that no one should watch you while doing exactly that-not even your spouse! With this realization, the need for shower curtains comes in handy.
Maybe it is worthwhile to remind ourselves of the years gone by. People used to bath in natural flowing rivers, with separate areas designated for women and men. Men were selfish enough to allocate themselves places upstream, and women downstream. With that arrangement, men and women could bath in their respective groups without much ado. To date, however, many people have built shower rooms as part of their homes or house designs. In rural set ups, separate shower room structures could be seen, but none without a shower curtain. Shower curtains, not only conceals the person taking a bath or a shower, but serves to beautify the shower room as well.
Shower rooms with shower curtains could be traced back to the times of ancient Greeks. Their shower system was largely communal shower rooms with large shower curtains. This was the preserve of the elites then. The water discharge and drainage system was barely a replica of modern civilization.
Public shower rooms, like those at boarding institutions, have shower curtains in place of a door. These curtains are made of
Heavy fabric that makes it remains stretched and straight even when splashed with water all day long. These shower curtains come with hookup provisions. These hooks are then attached to a running rode bar that stretch across the door entrance. Ancient Romans helped to spread and popularize the Greek shower curtains even further. Their historical bathrooms could be seen along major coastal cities along the Mediterranean Sea. It is possible that the Romans liked the idea of shower rooms hence shower curtains because they used to take bath several times in a day.
