You'd never think it but there is a lot to consider when choosing a new curtain track for the home.
Firstly, you need to decide what type of track you need. There are three main categories to choose from, with the first being manually-operated, which are operated by simply pulling them open and shut.
If you don't want to handle the curtains, you can use a draw rod which will stop them getting dirty from people's hands. The good thing about manual curtain tracks is that of all the options available to home owners, they are the most economical. They are long-lasting and no maintenance is required.
The second category of tracks is corded, which have a pulley system on the side which is used to open and close the curtains. Corded tracks are perfect for heavy, tall curtains or those that are difficult to reach.
However, unlike the manual type, some maintenance is required, checking cords aren't getting twisted and the occasional cleaning is recommended and it's advised that after cleaning, silicone lubricant should be sprayed along the track to prolong the tracks' life.
Electric is the third category, and it involves a motorised curtain track which opens and closes the curtains automatically. This is another track that is ideal for heavy, hard-to-reach curtains, but they are also ideal for delicate curtains which you might not want people to touch.
They can be operated using a timer but you can also get tracks which are light-activated. These are a great option as they will provide extra security for when you are not at home.
Although many people think curtain tracks have a sole purpose, this is not actually true. As well as being curtain tracks, they can be fashionable accessories to the home. Some track designs are basic, but there is always the option of buying stylish designer tracks which can be co-ordinated with your home's decor.
